VPN Detection
Definition
VPN Detection identifies when your device is connected through a Virtual Private Network (VPN).
Many apps monitor VPN usage because VPNs can:
- hide the real network identity
- route traffic through unknown or untrusted servers
- create conditions similar to anonymized or risky connections, etc.
Security Implications of VPN
- Apps may restrict sensitive actions when a VPN is active to prevent data masking or location spoofing.
- Fraudsters often use VPNs to hide malicious activity, making it harder for apps to verify genuine users.
- Financial or compliance-driven apps may block operations to ensure transactions occur from a trusted, verifiable network.
- Using an unreliable VPN could expose your data to third-party interception.
How To Disable VPN?
If an app alerts you about VPN usage, you can disable it using the steps below:
Option 1: Turn Off VPN from Quick Settings
- Swipe down -> Tap the VPN toggle (if visible) -> Turn it OFF.
Option 2: Turn Off VPN from Settings
- Go to Settings -> Network & Internet -> VPN.
- Select the active VPN and tap Disconnect or Forget.
Option 3: Disable VPN in the App Itself
- Open the VPN application.
- Tap Disconnect/Stop.
- Close or exit the VPN app if it reconnects automatically.
Option 4: Disable Always-On VPN (if enabled)
- Go to Settings -> Network & Internet -> VPN.
- Disable Always-On VPN or Block connections without VPN.
Option 5: Restart Network
- Toggle Airplane Mode ON & OFF to reset the network route.
Once the VPN is turned off, reopen the app and proceed with normal usage.
