Unsecured Wi-Fi Detection
Definition
Unsecured Wi-Fi Detection identifies when your device is connected to a Wi-Fi network that does not use proper security measures; typically open networks without passwords or networks using weak encryption. These networks make it easier for attackers to intercept or modify your online activity.
Security Implications
Unsecured Wi-Fi has several security risks:
- Hackers on the same unsecured network can capture sensitive data such as login credentials, OTPs, payment details, etc.
- Increased risk of Man-in-the-Middle (MITM) attacks, where someone secretly intercepts or alters communication.
- Potential exposure to malicious hotspots created to trick users into connecting.
- Apps may block sensitive operations when using insecure networks to prevent data theft.
How To Disable Unsecured Wi-Fi?
To stop using an unsecured Wi-Fi network:
Option 1: Disconnect Immediately
- Open Wi-Fi Settings.
- Tap the network you are connected to.
- Select Forget or Disconnect.
Option 2: Connect Only to Secure Networks
- Choose networks with a lock icon (WPA2/WPA3 protected).
- Avoid public/open hotspots without a password.
Option 3: Strengthen Your Own Network (if applicable)
- Change your router settings to use WPA2 or WPA3 encryption.
- Set a strong Wi-Fi password.
